First steps

Protohaund is designed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 on x86/x64; Windows 11 is recommended. The minimum version required by .NET 10 is Windows 10 1607 (build 14393); choose a serviced edition from the supported OS list. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are not supported.

Before starting with an adapter attached to a working bus, check active adapter detection: when enabled, device discovery may generate unwanted traffic before you connect to the line in the application.

On first launch, activate the beta license and install the packages needed for your task.

  1. Choose a task, then select the profile and module in the application.
  2. Prepare a source: configure a connection to a line carrying traffic, or load a trace file in Tracer.
  3. Open Tracer to inspect the message sequence, or Monitor to observe the latest values and periods.
  4. Check that messages appear. For CAN, start with the Physical layer. If the table is empty, clear the filter; when using an adapter, check the connection.
  5. Select the appropriate Tracer layer and apply a filter expression. Modbus RTU uses its own table.
  6. Label important messages and save the trace for further analysis.

Tracer and Monitor work with observed traffic. Source preparation is described under passive observation.

Analyze a file without connecting

Select the appropriate module and use Load in Tracer to open an existing recording. No adapter setup is needed. See trace files for supported formats and limits.
