How the workspace works
Start with a protocol or device family, then choose a tool and a data source. A module can offer several tools, and the same CAN adapter can serve different modules.
Main concepts
| Concept | What it determines | Example |
|---|---|---|
Profile | Application area | Industry or Automotive |
Module | Protocol or system family | CANopen or VAG |
| Tool | The task you perform with data | Tracer for history, Monitor for latest observations |
Transport | How the application connects to a line | Serial, CANable, J2534 |
| Trace file | Recorded communication for later analysis | .ptrc or .ptrbs |
| Package | An installable application component | CANopen or an adapter package |
Main window
The profile menu selects the application area and module. Main navigation opens the selected module's tools. Settings contains application, connection, account, and package settings. The transport name in the status bar shows connection status and measurements; it also opens traffic analysis.
Available tools and connections depend on the module, installed packages, and license. Installing a package does not grant license rights. If an item is missing, check module selection and access conditions.
Example: observing CANopen
Select Industry → CANopen, configure an installed CAN adapter, and connect to a line carrying traffic. Use Tracer for messages over time and Monitor for the latest bytes and periods of recurring frames. To inspect a recording, open it in Tracer without connecting an adapter.
Choose a working mode before starting.
